Initial D (Japanese: 頭文字Dイニシャル・ディー, Hepburn: Inisharu Dī) is a Japanese street racing manga series written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno. It was serialized in Weekly Young Magazine from 1995 to 2013, with the chapters collected into 48 tankōbon volumes by Kodansha. The story focuses on the world of illegal Japanese street racing, where all the action is concentrated in the mountain passes and rarely in cities or urban areas, and with the drifting racing style emphasized in particular.[4][5] Professional race car driver and pioneer of drifting Keiichi Tsuchiya helped with editorial supervision. The story is centered on the prefecture of Gunma, more specifically on several mountains in the Kantō region and in their surrounding cities and towns. Although some of the names of the locations the characters race in have been fictionalized, all of the locations in the series are based on actual locations in Japan.

Initial D has been adapted into several anime television and original video animations series by OB Studio Comet, Studio Gallop, Pastel, A.C.G.T and SynergySP. A live action film by Avex and Media Asia was released in 2005. Both the manga and anime series were initially licensed for English-language distribution in North America by Tokyopop (2002–2009),[6] however, the anime license has since been picked up by Funimation, while the manga was relicensed by Kodansha USA in 2019.

ABOUT TAKUMI FUJIWARA

Takumi is the son of Bunta the owner of a tofu shop, he has little interest in doing things and spends a lot of his time in a daydream, he works as a gas boy and in his spare time he helps his father by delivering tofu to customers in his dad's AE86 in the mountains unaware that this mundane job will lead to something unexpected......

ABOUT THE TRUENOABOUT THE TRUENO
(Taken from Wikia)
The car is a 1983 (an early model, known as a "zenki") Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX 3door hatchback, chassis code AE86. It is painted in High-Tech Two-Tone, a black and white "panda style" colour scheme, because of this it is often called the Panda Trueno.
The Trueno was originally fitted with a first generation 1.6L litre, 16 valve Bluetop 4A-GEU.
This engine had 150HP and revved at 7500RPM. It had a displacement of 1587cc and was naturally aspirated.

Custom Parts:

A pair of Cibie T353 Amber Fog Lights are fixed to the front bumper.
A Fujitsubo Legalis R Muffler MC50
A sticker that reads Fujiwara Tofu Shop is stuck to the right side of the car.
An ItalVolanti Admiral Red Trim Steering Wheel (changed to a Tom's steering wheel from 4th stage Manga onwards)
A cup holder was attached to one of the air vents on the dashboard. This was often used on delivery runs to hold a cup of water, which would simulate the movements of the load of tofu in the boot of the car
The original Door Visors (removed in Fifth Stage)
RS Watanabe Eight Spoke F8-Type Wheels (Black)
A TRD Bucket racing seat with Takata 4-point drift harnesses is added to the car after its new engine is installed, to help the driver deal with the additional g-forces. It is added by Masashi Suzuki between Chapter 118 and Chapter 119.
A Smiths 12,000 RPM Tachometer (later changed to Ultra club sport tachometer) and Smiths auxiliary gauges (Oil Pressure/Water Temperature) are fitted in Chapter 132, supplied by Masashi Suzuki.
The Trueno was fitted with a TRD Carbon Fiber Hood and Carbon Fiber Headlights by Shuichi Matsumoto of Project D in Chapter 239 to make the car weigh less
A Cusco Strut Bar and a Lightweight FRP Rear Gate with Acrylic Windows are added prior to Chapter 433.
Project D's mechanics add a Cusco 6 point roll cage to the Trueno in Chapter 490. In Fourth Stage a TRD 4 point roll bar is installed instead.

Ah Initial D, where do I begin? I fell in love with this series a few years ago and I can still feel it pumping through my veins to this day! This series is a love letter to street racers and car racing fanatics alike! I was absolutely gripped when I watched this and writing this now has made me want to strap on my seat belt and start watching it all over again! It's heart pounding, dramatic, hilarious, intense, the OST is epic and most of all its extremely entertaining! I could not get enough of it and I do hope that one day we might see more! Anyway being the person I am after watching the series I went merch hunting and oh boy there's a lot for Initial D but sadly I missed the boat on a lot of it, including the Trueno by Autoart, I was gutted and yet by some sheer miracle I found myself randomly on AmiAmi about 1:30 am and I just thought to myself why not check pre-owned for Initial D? I mean the odds of anything popping up were slim but I thought may as well, you never know! Well lo and behold I was knocked for six! There was the Trueno for a bargain price A-/B condition! Like Takumi putting his foot to the floor I pounced and ordered immediately and felt that great elation of knowing I got me a TRUENO!!!

Now as this is a showcase blog it's going to be like a review but basically I'm going to let the pictures do the talking here (note pics will be from two different shoots as I originally planned a vid for this), I will say that I love this model, it's highly detailed, well made and it does Initial D justice, it's great for display but also brilliant for figure photography, well worth the money! A side note due to my current circumstances I am unable to get a hold of the box, I will say that it wasn't all that amazing and you can see an impromptu unboxing and my excitement at owning the Trueno here:

Well as you can see this really is a superb model of the AE86 and I def recommend picking it up if you're an Initial D fan however sadly as this is now getting older it means that it is rare and therefore has gone up in price in the aftermarket, you may be lucky by checking AmiAmi pre-owned and Mandarake other places to try are E-Bay and Yahoo Japan Auctions, other than these I can't think of where else you'd get one. There're currently no known bootlegs of it so YJA and E-Bay should be fine to buy from but expect hefty prices.
